A little anecdote
My grandma's bother was named Leopold. He fought in WW II and wrote post cards to his mother, during this time. My grand-grandma wrote him once that the postwoman always told her what he had written. So, Leopold wrote a post card addressed to his mother. It started like this:
Dear post woman ,
Please tell my mother that ...
Why this anecdote?
An email is a post card, more or less. Everyone can read it, because it is sent unencrypted. This is not that bad - for most emails.
If you want to send confidential data and do not want that everyone can read this, you may send a PGP encrypted email.
I use the open-source GnuPG and the Enigmail-Plugin for Thunderbird.
